  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes

  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks

  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks

  • 1 red onion, cut into chunks

  • 8-10 wooden or metal skewers, soaked if using wooden skewers

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Olive oil for brushing

For the Plum Sauce:

  • 4 ripe plums, pitted and chopped

  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional but recommended)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

  2. Thread the chicken cubes, bell pepper chunks, and red onion pieces onto the skewers, alternating as desired. Season the skewers with salt and pepper.

  3. Brush the skewers lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.

  4. Place the skewers on the preheated grill and cook for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, or until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender and slightly charred.

  5. While the kebabs are grilling, prepare the plum sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the chopped plums, honey or brown sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using).

  6. Cook the plum sauce over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes, or until the plums have softened and the sauce has thickened slightly.

  7. Remove the plum sauce from the heat and let it cool slightly. Use a blender or immersion blender to puree the sauce until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Once the chicken shish kebabs are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.

  9. Serve the grilled chicken shish kebabs hot, drizzled with the homemade plum sauce. You can also serve any extra plum sauce on the side for dipping. Cooking note This Plum Sauce Chicken Shish Kebab recipe is perfect for summer grilling and is sure to be a hit at your next barbecue or outdoor gathering. Enjoy the delicious combination of tender chicken, with flavorful vegetables, and sweet and tangy plum sauce!
