The Best Homemade Peppermint Bark Recipe
Ingredients
12 oz (340g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
12 oz (340g) white chocolate chips
1 tsp peppermint extract (optional, for added minty flavour)
1 cup crushed candy canes or peppermint candies
Directions
Prepare the Baking Sheet
Line a 9x13-inch baking sheet or pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
Melt the Dark Chocolate
Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth.
(Optional: Stir in 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract.)
Pour the melted chocolate onto the lined baking sheet and spread evenly.
Chill in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes or until set.
Melt the White Chocolate
Repeat the melting process with the white chocolate chips.
(Optional: Stir in the remaining 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract.)
Gently pour the white chocolate over the set dark chocolate layer, spreading evenly.
Add the Peppermint Crunch
Sprinkle the crushed candy canes or peppermint candies over the white chocolate while it’s still soft.
Press lightly to ensure the pieces adhere.
Chill and Break
Refrigerate the bark for 1-2 hours until completely firm.
Once set, lift the parchment paper out of the pan and break the bark into pieces by hand.
Tip
Store peppermint bark in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
