Cheesy Naan Bread

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 cup warm water

  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional)

  • Garlic powder (optional)

  1. Prepare the Dough

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.

  • Add warm water and yogurt to the dry ingredients. Mix until it forms a dough.

  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  1. Shape the Naan

  • Once the dough has risen, divide it into 4 equal portions.

  • Roll out each portion into an oval or round shape (about 1/4 inch thick).

  1. Add Cheese and Flavor

  • Brush the surface of each naan with melted butter.

  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough.

  • Optionally, sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro and a pinch of garlic powder over the cheese.

  1. Cook the Naan

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.

  • Place one naan on the hot skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles start to form on the surface and the bottom is golden brown.

  • Flip the naan and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until golden and cooked through.

  • Repeat with the remaining naan bread. Brush the cooked naan bread with additional melted butter if desired and enjoy.
